Why would you love to grow up in LA?

Besides all the obvious reasons why I’m happy I grew up in LA, (weather, population, opportunities etc…) the best thing about it is its diversity.  Much like new york, we live in a huge diverse community, allowing us to see people of all races and religions.  I feel like it made ME much less ignorant than if I was someone from a much less diverse state. Being a Persian Jew, I am a common crowd in West LA, but if you go to somewhere like Kansas, or Idaho or somewhere that is much diverse than LA, most people haven’t even met a Persian or even a Jew. So, with that said, I conclude that since I grew up in LA, my environment allowed me to have a much more open mind than if i didn’t grow up in such a melting pot.

Prop 19

Should prop 19 pass? Yes.  If this proposition passes, it will create many jobs, help raise taxes, and in the end bring a good amount of revenue to the state.  Drug dealers will be pushed out of the game because the legal weed will be so cheap, street dealers can’t compete.  Will little children start smoking and think its “ok” to smoke?  California has reached a point where most people try smoking weed in high school anyways, and its no worse than alcohol or cigarettes.  In the end, its all a choice, so people should make theirs and our state should start making its money off the industry.

Stem Cell Research; is it Morally Correct?

Is Stem Cell Research Morally and Ethically correct? Yes.

Stem Cell research is an issue that we regard as highly controversial.  I think that it is in our best interests to continue this research, for it is an imperative study for the future of humanity.  through stem cell research, we have already broken through the first barriers of helping paraplegic regain their ability to walk, and cure diseases such as Parkinsons and diabetes.  These are few of many outcomes we could expect through stem cell research.

On the other hand, those who oppose stem cell research hold their bias because it is either morally or ethically wrong in their eyes.  Some believe that these aborted fetus’ should be treated as  human life and using them in labs is unethical.  The facts are that thousands of aborted fetus’ are medically disposed of every year even though they had the potential saving lives.  Is that ethical? No.

Today, Stem Cell research is completely legal, the question is whether or not it should be under congressional ban.  Today Stem Cell research is placed on congressional ban.   For what? Because the embryos used are “living” (although they have no organs, nor do they have a nervous system)  so the government can not fund the research.  I think that this is more of an ethical issue and cannot be resolved through facts but can only be reversed if people’s opinions change.

In conclusion, this research SHOULD BE funded by our government!  I feel as if the government is obligated to fund this research, for it is imperative to our lives.  By our government not funding stem cell research, we lose valuable resources and the efforts being made to cure disease and miraculously change peoples’ lives are not as high as they should be.
